Alfred Spirli

drums, sound objects

Alfred is a drummer, feather-duster player, and blower of horns. He also plays the retractable tube, the screen printing frame, the mechanical doll, the pig's bag... to put it simply, he plays all the instruments that aren’t actually instruments; he is an idiophonist.

Improvisation and performance are at the heart of his artistic approach.

Without ever having taken a single drumming lesson, he dives into music at the age of 17 by joining a progressive rock band. Since the National Conservatory of Music in Paris had not yet opened its class for pig's bags at the time, he studies on his own, with seriousness and persistence.

Since he is the only one on this planet who plays all of his instruments, it’s safe to say, without much risk of error, that Alfred is the best in his category and has played with nearly all the adventurous artists.

At ARFI, he currently plays in La Marmite Infernale, L'Effet Vapeur, La Souplesse de la Baleine, and Entre les oreilles. In his past and present collaborations and groups, you’ll find La compagnie Brouniack, Baston, Cie le plus petit espace possible, "Sautez, Dansez, Embrassez qui vous voudrez!", La compagnie du Lézard Dramatique, Constellation La Réunion, "Gonfle", and La Fanfare de la Touffe.
