La Marmite Infernale is an orchestra freed from most of the rules and diktats usually expected of a big band. Each member takes turns as composer, performer, or artistic director. Together, they create an expressionist universe, an unusual repertoire where free jazz, traditional music, classical references, and even garage punk collide—always leaving plenty of room for improvisation. With this wide-ranging palette of sounds, melodies, complex rhythms, and a clear taste for organized chaos, La Marmite Infernale comes together once again for its new album in 2025!
Special attention is given to voices and texts, which slip in and break through—playing hide-and-seek and mirror games with the instruments’ timbres. The ear is carried along by twists and turns, wandering between sandy, maritime, and rocky dreamscapes, fairground rides, and childlike refrains. Sometimes smiling, sometimes surprised, at times unsettled, it is always open to being brushed by emotion. The strings are pushed to their limits, the winds disguise themselves as insects, the instruments thunder, scatter, and reunite in mesmerizing melodies.
