Eric Vagnon

saxophone, percussions, saxophone alto

Eric plays the baritone and alto saxophones. He is one of the few ARFI musicians who hasn't ventured into the uncertain paths of poly-instrumentality. It's neither due to laziness nor closed-mindedness, but simply because he enjoys deeply exploring the subjects he confronts to the point of almost monomaniacal focus, even bordering on obsession. Above all, it’s because Eric is the only one who loves the saxophone this much.

Improvisation is at the heart of his artistic approach. Had he been a painter, he might be compared to both Soulages and Jackson Pollock: he loves spreading a powerful first layer of sound, on top of which, seemingly effortlessly, he projects a myriad of unique droplets, the delicacy and very existence of which may elude the ears of the inattentive. This was likely the case with one of his teachers, who once told him, “It’s astonishing to play like this and know so little.”

At ARFI, he has played in the trio Les Incendiaires and the video-concert Un Autre Kong. He has participated in La Marmite Infernale, Spoo, Babel Orkestra, and M. Mélies et Géo Smile.

Additionally, he is a member of the groups Kill Your Idols and Les Bampots.
