Christophe Gauvert

Double bass, Electric bass

Christophe has chosen the necks—he plays double bass and electric bass, and when the music calls for it, he can also handle the neck of a guitar.

Instrument necks that become like wizard staffs. Much like a necromancer, his approach involves harnessing the full range of his musical language to bring movement and life to inanimate things—in this case, making a musical idea or score resonate with sound and substance. Sometimes, his invocations plunge him into a trance-like state, occasionally triggering narcoleptic episodes that are somewhat inconvenient when performing upright.

He knew from a young age that music would be his career and drew all the necessary conclusions. The double bass stood squarely in his path, and he couldn’t avoid it.

His wide array of past and present collaborations includes the Debussy Quartet, Alain Debiossat, Marc Steckar, Jacky Mollard, Pierre Blanchard, John Tchicai, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Andrea Parkins, and La Table de Mendeleïev with Guillaume Grenard.

At ARFI, he currently performs with La Marmite Infernale, Indolphylités, Nosferatu, and Night of the Living Dead. He was also part of Les Plutériens.
