LA MARMITE INFERNALE > Next course !... New repertory... New album …

Though everything comes to an end, everything may also be continued ! All the better if we look forward to the story like a home-made dinner, an installment in a serial, a plot twist or a nex saga.. Heroes have evolved, new characters enter; the world slowly changes, idly answering humanity questions and how to accomplish dreams of the past. One could lose patience and shout : “Next course !” That urgent but logical order has become a device for La Marmite Infernale’s new repertoire.
New musicians have joined the band – an outstanding fact itself ! – who were met in various musical contexts (replacement, small bands, other projects in Arfi), their instruments into the hands, in a position to invent, improvise, and get closer to the band. Three new characters Fred Roudet (trumpet), Eric Vagnon (baritone saxophone), Olivier Bost (guitar) and three other musicians, that already performed in various projects in Arfi : Alfred Spirli (drums and objects), Jean Aussanaire (saxophones), Eric Brochard (double bass).

After "Boum", "Au Charbon" and "Sing for freedom", la Marmite Infernale has given itself new orders : creation and transmission have taken part in the collective practice. Direct and concrete application : the new repertoire has been made of works that were imagined not only by one composer but by a team of two or several conductors. Each piece have been initiated as intensely as possible by one musician and then one other (or several) musician(s) complete it.

"The musicians of the Arfi, both the original pioneers and the new (or almost new) recruits, aren’t the type to go straight to bed after the festivities for their thirtieth anniversary… Festivities that have just barely ended, at that. After “Boum” and “Au Charbon” (titles which are proof of a pugnacious and indefatigable spirit), here comes “Envoyez la Suite!” And what a suite it is! An incredible feeling, dynamite arrangements, incendiary choruses… The Marmite follows “a musical itinerary where neither redundancy nor cliché have a find a place… A journey… that goes along without deviation, with a high-energy shared pleasure.” These few words, written by Christian Rollet, one of the ‘founding fathers’, say it all. Rollet is not content to be just a great drummer- he also writes consistently remarkable texts that are concise, original and rich. And the listener has no trouble hearing this energy and pleasure. The “Marmite touch” is alive and well. A sort of singular, flamboyant, full-blown synthesis, with as much libertarian big band (Sun Ra, Chris MacGregor) as well-oiled post bop machine, with a few johnzonien zests thrown in for good measure.
